Podium for Lascorz as Fujiwara battles to Sixth

WSS, Salt Lake City, USA, 1 June 2010
Front row starters Joan Lascorz and Katsuaki Fujiwara each made strong points scores at Miller in the USA, after 18-laps of high-speed action in the Memorial Day holiday Monday race.

The 4.907km Miller Motorsport Park suited both riders and machinery better than the previous round at Kyalami and each rider saw that in their final results, with Joan third in the race and Katsuaki sixth.

Joan was not able to stay with the front running pace of eventual winner Kenan Sofuoglu and second place rider Eugene Laverty but his late pace made him a threat to Laverty right until the flag. Joan finished only 1.673 seconds from the lead. Joan has now scored six podium finishes from seven races, and is third on points, 14 from the lead.

Katsuaki was happy to be able to battle for a top four finish after qualifying fourth on the grid, but he had to settle for sixth and ten valuable championship points. 'Kats' has moved up one ranking place to ninth overall after seven rounds of a 13 round season. He he is now only ten points from a top five placing.

Joan Lascorz: “The start was difficult for me, with a full fuel tank. When the fuel load reduced in the middle of the race the bike was simply easier to ride. Another podium today and we are in not such a bad place in the championship. Sofuoglu and Laverty were also very fast today.”

Katsuaki Fujiwara: “We worked well, very well, and I had good self-control in the race. I had a good fight with Davies and Pirro and I passed Pirro on the last lap, only for him to get by me again at the flag. I am quite happy about today’s race, there was lots of tough fighting. My bike was working consistently and well. My target now is to finish the championship fourth or fifth.”

Frossard goes third

MX2, Glen Helen Raceway, USA, 31 May 2010
Steven Frossard of Kawasaki Team CLS stepped up his challenge for the MX2 title at Glen Helen Raceway in southern California, after recording his third podium finish to move third in the series.

The stocky French 22 year old had one of his best starts of the campaign so far in the opening 40 minute moto, run under blue skies with temperatures soaring into the mid 30s Celsius.

Setting the fastest lap of the race, Steven was edging relentlessly closer to leader Marvin Musquin until a solitary mistake cost him his chance of victory but he had no difficulty keeping his composure to retain a strong second place to the chequered flag. From a slightly less impressive start in race two Steven had worked forward to third place with nearly 15 minutes of the race remaining, only for the race to be red-flagged for an incident which was blocking the track ; as results are counted from the positions held at the end of the previous lap in these circumstances, Steven found himself classified 4th, thus being demoted from second to third overall on the day.

Teammate Jeremy Van Horebeek had shown that he too is ready for a podium finish with a strong second place during the qualification on Saturday, but moderate starts left the Belgian chasing through the field in both races to hold 5th and 6th places in the two races when they came to an end. Unfortunately, like his teammate, Jeremy was still charging hard when the second race was stopped prematurely and was classified two places further back in 8th position as he had passed two rivals on the final lap. Nevertheless, he retains 7th in the championship standings, just 13 points short of 5th.

Steven Frossard: « During the qualifying race yesterday I crashed and bent back my thumb when I was battling with Anstie. I knew that it would be difficult for two 40 minute races on this demanding track, especially on the fast and long downhills. I felt some pain during the warm up, but it was much better during the first moto; I had a great start and I found a good rhythm behind Musquin, but I made a small mistake and lost three seconds and after that I concentrated on containing Roczen behind me. I didn’t make such a good start in the second race and it was difficult to pass but I forced my way through to third position when the race was stopped with the red flag; unfortunately they took the classification of the previous lap and they put me in fourth, which cost me the second place of the GP. The track was great and it was fun to ride, but I’m a little frustrated because it could have been even better. I’m looking forward now to Saint Jean D’Angely, a location that I really enjoy, next weekend. »

Jeremy Van Horebeek: « Saturday was a great day. I was second fastest all day and scored my best-ever qualifying result. My first start today was not so great, and it took me twenty minutes to get into a good rhythm; but once I had done so I could charge from twelfth to fifth with good lap times which gave me confidence for race two. But there was a pile up at the second corner and I was delayed by the incident; I fought back to sixth again until I made another mistake and lost a few places, and I was again in sixth place when the race was stopped, but I had only been eighth the lap before, which is how they score a race in these circumstances. In the last couple of races I’ve always been one of the fastest riders but it hasn’t been reflected in my results. »

Solid Points in Each Race for Tom and Chris

WSBK, Salt Lake City, USA, 1 June 2010
Kawasaki Racing Team riders Tom Sykes and Chris Vermeulen scored points in each Miller Motorsports Park race today, maintaining their championship positions.

The riders also improved on their qualifying positions in each race, as they got to grips with the big and fast corners at Miller, during another intense day of race action in the Superbike World Championship.

In the first 21-lap contest Sykes was 13th in a lone race in the last laps. Chris was 15th, unlucky to lose a place on the last lap.

In the second race, with track temperatures much higher than in race one, Chris was 14th at the start of the race, finally scoring 13th place, one ahead of Tom. Sykes had tangled with another rider early on and was down to 19th at one stage.

Tom is still 15th overall, now on 42 points, Chris 19th on nine. The next round is at Misano on 27 June.

Tom Sykes: “We started the weekend in good shape but although we were consistent with lap times and we improved on last year’s times, it was still not fast enough. I had a decent launch in both races but in race two I got tangled up with a Ducati rider and lost a few places, which put us in a disastrous 19th place. Middle race distance we struggled with handling into the long left-handed corners but I fought back as hard as I could to finish within the points. I guess that is a positive from the weekend. I’m sorry for the boys but I did the best I could and I look forward to getting things back-on track and running nearer the front at Misano.”

Chris Vermeulen: “A difficult weekend but we scored points in both races. It was my first time here and we improved the bike all weekend. At a circuit like this with really long corners we struggled to make the turns and we do not have the fastest bike right now. We have some work to do still. We made some changes race one to race two because I struggled with front tyre durability again, and we made it a lot better. Consistency and speed was faster, and I think that I was eight seconds nearer the front. That was a good step forward for us.”

Leader Lascorz Out For Win Number Two

WSS, Monza, Italy, 3 May 2010 Joan Lascorz extended his championship lead at the previous Assen round by finishing second on his Ninja ZX-6R, just ahead of Kenan Sofuoglu. After four rounds he has 85 points to Sofuoglu’s 77. Katsuaki Fujiwara, Lascorz’s team-mate for the second year in succession, has a long history of racing at Monza, but has had good and not so good turns of fortune this year. His immediate goal is to move further into the top ten by posting a strong finish at the ultra-fast Monza circuit. Both official Kawasaki entrants will find a new-look first chicane at Monza, making the circuit 5.777km long this time around and still one of the fastest tracks on this or any other race calendar. Lap times are expected to drop significantly due to the new chicane layout.Lascorz has now scored three second place finishes and one win this season, his victory coming at Valencia. At the classic Monza circuit Joan will be out to make it win number two of the season, before heading to Kyalami for round six, on May 16.Monza has been a good track for both Joan and Kats in the past, with Joan second last year and Kats a Monza winner in his earlier career. Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki rider Fabien Foret has also been a Monza race winner, on two previous occasions.Joan Lascorz: “I want to have a clean qualifying result to be in the position to fight for the win at Monza. I am taking things one race at a time and just working hard with the team to go for wins and not make mistakes. We are leading the championship because we have been consistent, but also because of our speed in races, which we have been able to repeat each weekend.”Katsuaki Fujiwara: “We have had a good pace this year but so far it is not being turned into the kind of results we all want. I want that to change at Monza. This weekend there will be a lot of slipstreaming, so it is important to get away in the leading group and be clever when overtaking. I am going for a good finishing position and want to show my fighting spirit again.”

High Speed Monza Welcomes Sykes And Vermeulen

WSBK, Monza, Italy, 3 May 2010The fast straights and heavy braking zones of Monza are the challenges facing the Kawasaki Racing Team pairing of Chris Vermeulen and Tom Sykes this coming weekend, at the historic parkland circuit. Monza, like the previous circuit of Assen in the Netherlands, is an iconic venue, and one that has high average speed at the centre of its character, despite the presence of several chicanes to slow down the 200bhp-plus World Superbike machines.A classic venue in every sense, Monza is an essential stopping off point for any fan that wishes to understand the passion and heritage that underpins Italian Motorsport. The first chicane has been altered for this year’s race, making it a faster and more flowing section, which is expected to take the times down between 1.5 and two seconds per lap. After making a breakthrough in set-up at Assen, Sykes is hoping he can carry on the aggressive form he showed there and start moving up the championship table from his current position of 16th. Tom had two top six finishes last year at the Monza circuit.Having been forced to miss some 2010 races due to a troublesome knee injury, Vermeulen is all ready for his latest challenge at a circuit he holds dear. Chris won there in 2005, before embarking on a stint in MotoGP. Tom Sykes: “I’m really looking forward to getting back on the bike for the Monza weekend. I feel slightly cheated that I wasn’t able to finish race two in Assen after the progress we’d made there. Each race I am getting more and more comfortable on the Ninja ZX10R and I’m learning a lot about the bike every weekend. We are making steady progress and I have full confidence in my team. I hope that I continue to bring the bike home inside the points scoring places and hopefully creep in to the top 10, which we’re all aiming for.”Chris Vermeulen: “I’m really looking forward to the Monza event as it’s an exciting race and a special circuit, partly because it is so fast. It will be great to race there again, this time on the Kawasaki. The last time was 2005 and I had a win so it’s a positive circuit for me, with good memories and results. As for my knee, I’m still not 100% but I’m working hard on it and it’s improving each day. I still have some difficulties with movement but for sure it will be an improvement from Assen. I’m looking forward to jumping on the bike and seeing what Monza brings to us.”

Dunlop Romanian Superbike - Etapa 2 Slovakia Ring

Dunlop Romanian Superbike

SlovakiaRing etapa2 – rezultate

A 2-a etapa din campionatul Dunlop Romanian Superbike a aliniat la start peste 260 de piloti pe noul circuit de viteza din Slovacia. Inca o data, vremea a tinut cu participantii, soarele incalzind pista in toate cele 3 zile.
Dublul campionul Dunlop Romanian SuperBike a revenit insa in pluton pe locul 5, facand o cursa nebuna de urmarire, care a durat pana in ultimul tur si asigurandu-i inca o victorie.

Nici clasa SuperBike nu a avut o cursa fara favoriti pusi in situatii dramatice.

Pourcel Wins AMA Supercross Lites East 2010 Championship

Pourcel retained his title as the AMA Supercross Lites Eastern Region champ as he clinched the title with one round to go. Pourcel had run a great season, claiming his fifth win in seven races to earn another No. 1 plate for the Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki transporter.“I normally don’t think about the championship at the races, I just want to put in a good race,” said Pourcel. “I am really happy that I was able to wrap it up early, but next week I still want to go out with a win.” Villopoto started the day with a few ups and downs, but he made it count when he needed it, flying out to the holeshot in the main event and pushing hard to keep a gap between him and second place. With his consistent lap times, he did just that and took the win by 6.9 seconds. “It definitely wasn’t a perfect day, by any means, but I really wanted the win,” said Villopoto. “I’ve made mistakes in the past, but my goal was to put in 20 solid laps. I feel like I did that and I was able to get my seventh win.” Coming into Round 13 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM Championship, Villopoto faced a 21-point deficit, but with his win and the points leader finishing fifth, he made up nine points and put himself in position to make a run for the title.“Since I fell in Atlanta, the main goal for me was to keep winning races and hopefully (Ryan) Dungey would make a mistake,” said Villopoto. “Tonight he made a pretty big mistake and I was able to capitalize, especially with the win. I want to go out in the next couple races and try to chip away the best I can at the points gap.” Reed made his return to racing after taking time off to completely recover from the hand injury he sustained during Round 2 of the series. He posted fast lap times all day and showed his enthusiasm to be back after being away for three months.“It feels really good to be back racing and not sitting in the stands watching,” said Reed. “It was really hard for me to watch and be out that long. To be honest, it was good to finally get 20 full laps in. I haven’t really done that with this team other than Australia, but that was a different format. So it was nice to get out there and be in the top-five my first race back.” Wilson’s ninth place result didn’t reflect how well he rode after competing in only his fourth supercross event of his career. After a decent start, he worked his way up to third and was constantly looking for a place to pass for second. On the last lap, Wilson decided to go for it, but went down and had to settle for ninth.“I was so disappointed that I made that mistake,” said Wilson. “I know everyone makes mistakes, but that one hurt a little bit. I really wanted to be on the podium. Next week I want to finish with my best result.” With the championship all wrapped up, Pourcel had one more task at hand when he got back to the truck. As team member gathered around, Pourcel hung his No. 1 plate on the doors of the team semi, a Pro Circuit tradition. During his first race back, Reed didn’t get to focus solely on the race. In the back of his mind was the approaching birth of his son with his wife Ellie.“Racing was a little different this weekend compared to the past because I have the possibility of being called home to be with Ellie,” said Reed. “Every time I came in off the track, I wanted to go back and check my phone to see if anything had progressed. We were lucky to have it work to where I could come to the race this week, but now we have to wait and see what happens throughout this upcoming week.” Results AMA Supercross Series - Houston, TexasSupercross Class 1. Ninja ZX-10R

The 2010 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is an evolution of the 2009 race bike. Bodywork, exhaust, shift mechanism and steering damper are new for 2010 on the stock bike. After a fair amount of testing, this new incarnation will prove to be even more efficient than its predecessor. Most important improvements have been made in engine management and chassis setup, which makes the bike more stable and easier to ride. Kawasaki has developed this Ninja ZX-10R in terms of racing and competition, let there be no mistake about that! Hopefully, in this 2010 season, the machine will show its full potential at racetracks around the world. Razor sharp, focused and eager to obtain as many podium finishes as humanly possible, both Chris Vermeulen and Tom Sykes are set to take the Ninja ZX-10R to its limit.
